Where do you source your data?
CarVeto source data from Police Theft Markers (National Police Register), DVLA, VIC, Experian (all information pertaining to finance agreements) and other third party sources.
Can I obtain the information free online?
Some of the data we provide is opensource such as MOT history provided by the DVLA. Other components are not available to the general public to which we incur a fee.
How can I check a car's history for free?
It depends on the type of data you are looking for. For example, if you need to verify the MOT history of a car the DVLA website provides this online.
If you wish to know if a car has outstanding finance, it is generally unavailable without a car history checking service or if the finance is held in your name.
Can you check if a car is on finance?
Yes, our Platinum check provides full financial information including agreement type, lending house, agreement number, date of the agreement and full contact information of the lending house.
Finance checks are not available via our free checking service.
All of our financial data is supplied by Experian.
What is a stocking loan finance agreement?
Stocking loans are financed agreements made between the car dealer and an interested finance company.
Stocking loans may vary from one company to another but their purpose is to provide cars (Stock) to dealerships on a credit basis. A finance company will fund a group of cars and permit a car dealership to sell on their behalf. Once vehicles are sold, the dealership settles the finance outstanding with a view to purchasing another vehicle.
If your CarVeto certificate displays ‘Stocking Loan’ finance we recommend taking these steps:
- Contact the interested finance company using the information provided in your CarVeto report.
- Confirm the finance company have a financial interest in the vehicle.
- Obtain all information relating to the settlement of the finance should you buy the car
- Insist on a settlement letter prior to buying the car
These steps ensure you will remain safe and legal.
Is it illegal to sell a car with outstanding finance?
Yes. It is illegal to buy or sell a car with finance outstanding from a car finance company as the car belongs wholly or partly to the lending company.
A bank loan is not secured against the vehicle and is, therefore, a different type of agreement that will generally not hold liability towards the car.
Can I check if a car is insured?
Yes, CarVeto provides links to askMID who hold car insurance status information within their database.
If a car is held by car dealers it may not display as insured via the askMID website. Car dealers use ‘traders policies’ to insure multiple vehicles at any one time.
